This week WowStack has been going through a few transformations, such as we ditched the idea of running a WoW private server ourselves.

Instead we simply decided to turn WowStack into an umbrella project that is managing the return of Legacy WoW to the community.

What does this include

  • OpenWoW is the first child project, that builds and maintains tools and servers to run your own World of Warcraft private server from vanilla WoW up to the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

Other parts include e.g. data restoration, game client and client patch archives, full-scale documentation of data formats, client/server communication, etc.

For now, that is all there is. But we’ll publish more in the coming weeks as we go.
